Great place. You must visit. Best place to study the ancient urban planning and irrigation technologies. You must visit the museum. If not, your travel to this rock is not worthy. Climb up in morning and evening

Being considered the eighth wonder of the world by some the Sigiriya rock has a great history. In its earliest days it used to be a huge Buddhist monastery complex. At the time of king Kashyapas reign this huge rock was converted to a huge fortress. The fortress was equipped with many security equipment & the king made his castle on the top of the rock. The artistic king decorated his fortress & castle with well known Sigiriya wall arts & he landscaped the surrounding ground with water springs, water fountains & many other means which are considered to be wonders of ancient technology. One should definitely visit in life time...
